Pass it on

Some of my best times have been shared with my girlfriends. There is nothing like the laughter and feeling of solidarity and sisterhood amongst a group of like minded women who can leave the challenges and stresses of everyday life behind them as they invest in the richness of each other’s company, advice and good old gossip. We’ve talked men, marriage, money, mistresses, but never, never, never have we discussed poo!!!!! So why, why, why Mr Media Marketing Mogul do we have adverts about women discussing ‘passing it on’? I mean, why would you? Sex yes, but poo strictly no. Anything I pass is … Read More »

BODY BEAUTIFUL

BODY BEAUTIFUL   Have you noticed that all the girls in Mistresses have amazing bodies, why couldn’t just one of them look like me! Sadly no longer the body my husband married twenty five years ago, not that he is complaining, well not in my hearing anyway. It is such hard work now to keep it all where it should be. Visits to the gym, we all spend vast amounts of money on fees thinking it will defiantly re shape our bods, trouble is you actually have to go there… The ultimate for lazy slobs like me, in keep fit! A range of tabletop type … Read More »

Mistresses

OK girls, be honest. How many of you who watched ‘Mistresses’ on Tuesday night were politely shocked but secretly intrigued and fascinated by Siobhan’s nocturnal outings?marigold

What’s a girl to do? Supersize or Superskinny, soya or dairy, kids or career, Stella or Luella? Choices today are endless, and rather than make life easier, only serve to create more stress and a feeling of failure. So how do we know when we are doing the right thing? What one magazine tells you today another will contradict tomorrow, and sometimes the advice of friends will only make you feel inadequate as you marvel at their size 10 frame, enviable career, culinary aptitude and irritatingly successful children. There are no easy answers, and in today’s uncertain world, who can afford to take risks? Listening … Read More »

CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS

this is the story of a friend, in her own words, I thank Jade for raising the profile of the disease and its stealthy attack.I was told, at 20yrs old, that I was too young for a smear test. Had I listened to that GP’s first opinion I would probably be in Jade’s position now. Luckily my GP suggested she put in my notes that I had experienced some random spotting so that we could proceed with a smear. Abnormal cells were found in this and every smear I then had yearly, until last year, aged 25, I had a full colposcopy as I … Read More »

Is the fat woman singing

With London fashion week sorted I was interested to see the latest Conde Nast glossy publication, ‘LOVE’. It has Beth Ditto, a ‘well covered’ singer, virtually naked ( there may have been a thong!) on the front cover, does this mean that the world of fashion has fallen in love with the big belly and rounded bum, or is this a brave attempt to say to all of us that are not size 00 and an x-ray of womanhood ” its OK now to be a real size, a real woman”The cynical side of me wonders is it trying to be a little daring … Read More »

Bling or Bust

Its a complicated business, fashion. A sort of emotional science – find the right formula and you are singing with the angels, several stones lighter and with the confidence of a cashmere goat who has just negotiated a deal with a New York supplier. But get it wrong – and haven’t we all at times? – and you are blighted by rash of akwardness, the wallflower at the edge of the room whom nobody notices, or whom everyone notices for all the wrong reasons. Finding the perfect outfit is like finding the perfect partner. We just know when it is right. I don’t just … Read More »

Jade Goody

Jade If ever there was a case for self publicity, then surely poor Jade Goody would win hers with a mere rustle of the judge’s robes. Love her or hate her, the battle Jade faces now against cervical cancer is huge, and her will to earn as much for her beloved boys whilst she still has the ability can only be admired.marigold 17.02.09 c.jam The great thing about a girl like Jade is she has never shied away from her true self. She would be the first to acknowledge she is loud and brash, and thank goodness that is the case, as she will … Read More »

The Colour of Love

The Colour of Love I’m lost in an orbit on planet Purple. Drunk with desire yet impotent to reason and reality, I am wholly sustained in my new atmosphere. Lavender is my sun, amethyst my moon. My world is deep and rich, velvet and ermine with Corinthian columns, perfumes of Provence and colours of Moroccan markets. This is a world in glorious Technicolor, with a three dimensional passion and all encompassing vision. Purple is President, no sepia sentiments here, no muted tones or faded feelings. This purple is bold and brash, Russian and Greek, arrogant and brave – all knowing but with an indigo … Read More »
