this is the story of a friend, in her own words,
I thank Jade for raising the profile of the disease and its stealthy attack.
I was told, at 20yrs old, that I was too young for a smear test. Had I listened to that GP’s first opinion I would probably be in Jade’s position now. Luckily my GP suggested she put in my notes that I had experienced some random spotting so that we could proceed with a smear.
Abnormal cells were found in this and every smear I then had yearly, until last year, aged 25, I had a full colposcopy as I had pre-cancerous cells that needed to be removed. Thank goodness for that GP’s tip: GIRLS, DO THE SAME THING…IF YOU ARE UNDER 21, SAY YOU’RE SPOTTING AND GET THAT SMEAR.
