66 year old Elizabeth is 8 months pregnant, there is a good chance she will be 67 when she gives birth, is this too old to be a mum?
I truly think it is, it’s all the ‘what if’s’ that send a shudder down the spine, what if it’s a girl, she will not have a mum to help when she is pregnant and a new mum, we all know how hard it is in the first few months, sadly my dear friends mum died young, before she could meet her daughters daughter and I know how desperately she needed her support, help and love.
She won’t be around to guide her girl through first period, first love, first heartbreak…. or see her wedding day. What if the child is disabled in any way, with the best will in the world it is extremely hard physically and mentally to cope.
What if it’s a boy, Elizabeth it seems has very little in the way of family to help her, she lives on her own, so sports? What about a kick around with her son of say 5years old… she will be 72yrs need I say any more.
Yes I do know amazing woman in their 70’s who look incredible, they get and stay that way because they have lived through the traumas, be they big or small, of bringing up kids and can now pamper and look after themselves.
Being a grandmother is exhausting and you get to give the beloved little ones back!
I believe there is a very good reason Mother Nature gave us a cut off age to reproduce, after 50 the body slows and moves south! menopause is there for a reason, like or hate it its doing a job.
I am trying to think of how I would feel if my mum was the same age as all my friends’ grand-parents…. not good! To be an orphan young is a tragedy but for a single parent to choose a very late baby knowing that will be the outcome is really really sad.
I wish Elizabeth and her child well, maybe (and I hope) she has a lot of dosh in the bank and can ensure a fantastic future for her little one. But hand on heart I feel 66yrs is just too old and possibly a little selfish.
