Gardens rock!

Yes its good to embrace the new, but sometimes there’s nothing like a bit of tradition to give you that real ‘feel good’ factor, and make us hark back to the good old days. Is it nostaligia talking, or the Chelsea Flower Show time of year?

Whether or not you are a gardener, no-one could fail to be moved by the amazing display of colour, design, new technology, inventiveness – oh, and a few flowers along the way. This annual event brings together all that, to me, is good with the world. Not only does it herald in the glorious (well, when it’s not raining) English summer, but combines true art with technology. There is as much creative talent on show as at the Tate, but the artists are using flora instead of oils and acrylic. Sculpture abounds, vegetables looking as if they have come straight from the set of Harry Potter and which even Marks and Spencers or Daylesford Organics can’t better create stunning displays, peaceful water soothes the senses and stimulates the mind and you can buy almost anything from a tractor to a ball of string and roses preserved in glycerine that will last you up to 3 years. Now that’s some sell by date!

Chelsea is the Chanel of the garden world – effortlessly stylish, classy and totally timeless.
One could say the title ‘Flower Show’ is misleading as Chelsea is so much more than that. Its a visual and sensual feast, intoxicating, exhilarating and soothing, and like any good painting, the more you look, the more you see. If you can cope with traffic and crowds, make it a date.

marigold x well, I would love gardening, wouldn’t I?
