Let it go

I had one of those detox days – not swallowing vile green gunk, but clearing out a wardrobe and taking bags of my least loved items to the charity shop. It felt good to see the light of day between cramped hangers and my clothes could breathe a sigh of relief at having hanger space all to themselves. They swished, rather than squeezed. Amongst these offerings was a certain item, which a few days later I espied in an upmarket glossy as being today’s ‘must have’. Typical! If only I had known.

It got me thinking two things. Firstly, if I didn’t like it in my wardrobe, why should I now like it just because Vogue tells me too? And secondly, how greedy I must be to think someone is now benefitting for a fraction of the cost it would cost me to buy today’s new look.

I agonised over this, but Cupcake told me to ‘let it go’. She, of course, was right. A few days ago I received a letter from the said charity shop telling me how much that item had raised.

That money will go towards vital research that one day could save my, or one of my friend’s or families’ life. How do you put a value on that?
