I only caught the last 5 minutes of Fern Britton’s final episode of This Morning, but 5 minutes was all it took to have me too in tears.
Journalists, fashion editors and scriptwriters go to great lengths to try to sum up, either in print, design or image, what the ‘it’ factor is. For me, Fern has it in spades. She has warmth, beauty, charm, compassion, grace, dignity and great, great humour. She has been my sister, my mother and my best friend, often all in the same episode as I’ve laid snivelling on the sofa with flu, calming fractious children, or counselling distraught friends. She’s been my tonic if I’m down, and my mate when I’m up.
I think one of the great things about Fern, is whatever may be going on inside her mind privately, she never appears to take herself too seriously, yet offers heartfelt advice to the grieving and those in distress.
Put simply, she is a real lady. Good luck Fern, we’ll miss you.
