More on Michael

I missed last night’s memorial service, so my comments are only based on news highlights and today’s press – although yes, Mariah Carey is one scary lady.

A musical extravaganza, a showbiz spectacle, call it what you like. One thing about the last 10 days though which has struck me more than anything is the blatant hypocricy of those celebrities just dying (excuse the choice of words) to ‘pay tribute’ to Jackson when they probably had little to do with him during his last lonely years. Were they standing in support when he had paedophile claims made against him? Did they help with his mental health issues? And when Michael’s family criticise others for his possible misuse of prescription drugs, where were they? Funny they all manage to have been so visible during the last 10 days.

Call me a cynic yes, but a fan yes too. Michael Jackson was undeniably supremely talented and unique in many, many ways. But lets not all succumb to the ‘Princess Diana’ syndrome of over reaction and taking grief to the levels of a Drama degree – remember all those flowers at Kensington Palace? – lucky florists!!! Michael was a human being first and foremost, and most importantly, lastly of all. And now he has died, so lets leave it there.

By the way, was I the only one who half expected the lid of that gold coffin to open and for Michael to leap into life after one huge publicity stunt?
