ANKLE BOOTS, TODAYS FASHION OR YESTERYEAR?

Is it just me or is the latest trend in footwear looking very much like the old ‘corrective boot’ kids in school were scared of!  I may have been very young at the time and I am not sure what is used now.. but every time I open a fashion mag there they are…. They may well come in stunning colours and delicate suede’s and leathers but they still look hideous! they are also incredibly high…. I watched a beautifully dressed young woman the other day trying to walk down some stone steps…. not wanting to offend I did not rush to help her but felt on stand-by to … Read More »

STRICTLY OR X FACTOR

Now for the big dance off… between strictly or x factor… actually we can all watch one and record the other so its not really a big war between the two shows… and its a wonderful way to welcome the autumn once again. I must admit I am more of a dance fan… but hubby prefers the odd world of wannabe’s, I am a fan of the delightful Lynda B, she is trying so hard and I thought that she was going to throw up with nerves on sat pm…. her first dress was awful but the little red number much better…. she … Read More »

Newspaper Bags

I was intrigued by the packaging around a recently purchased birthday present – a bag made from recycled Indian newspaper.  Reading the tag, the bags are produced by an organization which was started in 2004 by street children in Delhi who wanted to give something back in return for the opportunities which had allowed them to escape desperate circumstances.  These elder children, now married with children of their own, generate an income by making newspaper bags and jute items.  This allows them to take care of thirteen street children that they have saved from the street’s surrounding Delhi train station.  Support for this wonderful … Read More »

Wogan’s a winner

Love or hate? I’ve always been a Terry Wogan fan. To me, Terry has that infinite star quality – that self-deprecating wit, charm, humility, sensitivity, understanding and ability to make a story of the most mundane of situations. He makes you feel that you want him to be in your family, at your party, in your office, and your friend. He just seems to be ‘one of the good guys’ and during his many years broadcasting, has no doubt been a friend and companion to many. I have no doubt that at times he can be as arrogant and irritating as the best of … Read More »

BOOTED AND SUITED

Booted and suited!   No-one loves the sun more than a marigold, but there is a definite advantage to these cooler, autumnal days.  Boots.   Forget shoe fetishes, for me it’s boots that have that X factor.  They are the extra % in dark chocolate, the extra carat in that diamond and slipping a chilly foot into a warm sock to be snugly encased in supple suede or smooth leather is pure cashmere for the soul.  Who wants silly strappy sandals, bent on snapping your ankles and giving you bad posture,  back ache and bunions well into your old age?   … Read More »
