BOOTED AND SUITED

Booted and suited!

No-one loves the sun more than a marigold, but there is a definite advantage to these cooler, autumnal days.  Boots.

Forget shoe fetishes, for me it’s boots that have that X factor.  They are the extra % in dark chocolate, the extra carat in that diamond and slipping a chilly foot into a warm sock to be snugly encased in supple suede or smooth leather is pure cashmere for the soul.  Who wants silly strappy sandals, bent on snapping your ankles and giving you bad posture,  back ache and bunions well into your old age?

Boots are smart, slim the leg and hide all those horrid little veins and evidence of missed waxing appointments and razor stubble, and tell a far more interesting story than the humble shoe.  Whether your taste is for well worn cowboy boots as favoured by the likes of me – long before Sienna Miller was even a twinkle on the Arizona plains – or your preference is for long and lovely, sleek and supple Italian over the knee beauties, there’s a style for every mood, every season and every occasions.   You can never look dowdy in boots – not even wellies – and never have to freeze from your little piggies upwards when you are teetering on ridiculously vertiginous heels during a freezing summer, wishing you were in opaque tights but knowing tights and sandals in summer just don’t go.  You can run around all day in a flat pair feeling warm and comfy without looking like a very slummy mummy in perpetual trainers or having to claw your toes to keep on today’s very flat pumps.  Yes, Audrey Hepburn looked great in hers with a pair of elegant capri pants, but if we all looked like Audrey Hepburn, we wouldn’t have to bother, would we?

I’ve yet to meet a man who doesn’t like boots.  I think its the slight look of control in long leather, the unzipping of the boot to reveal a shapely calf, or just the good ol’ fresh, young and outdoorsy look of the cowboy boot which appeals.  I love the look of long elegant boots with a cocktail dress (no one ever has to know whether you have fat ankles), and chunky boots with thick tights and layers of cashmere in winter.

If shoes are an accessory, then to me boots are part of your personality.  I’ve just bought a black suede pair with silver tips on the toes.  What does that tell you about me???
