Love or hate? I’ve always been a Terry Wogan fan. To me, Terry has that infinite star quality – that self-deprecating wit, charm, humility, sensitivity, understanding and ability to make a story of the most mundane of situations. He makes you feel that you want him to be in your family, at your party, in your office, and your friend. He just seems to be ‘one of the good guys’ and during his many years broadcasting, has no doubt been a friend and companion to many.
I have no doubt that at times he can be as arrogant and irritating as the best of us, but that familiar Irish voice will have soothed many a sorry soul in the dark early hours, and been a constant to some going through life changing situations.
I’m a real fan, but even if you aren’t, who wouldn’t wish someone who has given so much to others a long and happy retirement?
