VOGUE OR ‘MAIL-O-METER…

I  was in a rather smart waiting room on Thursday and picked up a  rejected ‘daily mail’… not a paper I usually read but boredom got the better of me and I read cover to cover… well that’s a lie, actually I missed all the sports bits!

I came across a little bit called Mail-o-Meter, written by Deborah Ross, it was and here I quote the headline..Deborah Ross’s laugh-out-loud guide to who’s hot, who’s not, what’s in, what’s out, etc etc etc.

The bit that caught my eye was a spiteful piece of  inverted snobbery, an attack on Vogue Mag… it was also, I felt, rather patronizing and I was NOT laughing out loud! I am in favour of witty writing but I am afraid this missed completely!

I am well aware of the recession and all that surrounds our dreadful economy and the un-employment figures but I felt her banal use of words were pitiful and rather childish… if that is the way you think you get laughs Ms Ross … think again, that was not funny… it was just plain rude.

I would point out here that her article accussed people of being  fashionistas who needed to be ”beaten off with a stick” she quoted the title of the piece in vogue incorrectly which made me think she is one those who reads the headlines but not the whole articles.

In fact on the same page of the ‘the daily mail’ there is a spoof ad for a mag  called “more cash than dash’ …I was not sure if that is her attempt at irony, incorrectly calling the vogue article by the same title.

The piece under attack comes in the November issue and is in the vogueshops pages and is called ‘more dash than cash’ and is in fact very useful, there are a lot of people who take a pride in getting a great sophisticated look without having to spend mega bucks!

So I would like to say ‘thank you vogue’  not only do you keep me up-to-date with the latest looks, but I have many happy hours browsing your lovely glossy pages…..and reading some very witty words,  maybe I am living in cloud cuckoo land, but I really enjoy my monthly little taste of glamour and even if it is pure escapism where is the problem with that…. life is very tough for us all,  I wish I had taken my copy of vogue when I had to while away hours in a waiting room!

The waiting room in question?  it was a consultants! …. I needed escapism not silly, petty ‘oh I’m so funny and clever’ rubbish.
