STEPHEN FRY AND TWITTER

We are sad to hear about Stephen Fry and Twittergate….

First the background of the story is that a ‘tweeter’ posted ‘that some of Stephens postings were getting boring’… (never in million years could stephen fry be called boring) however it seems Stephen was having a bad day/time and at that moment took the tweet to heart, decided he may as well quit twitter.

Stephen, it is well documented,  has bipolar and can have very bleak dark days. With amazing courage he made a documentary about the illness,  he has bought this terrible condition into the public eye helping lots of others who suffer and hopefully given a wider public understanding of the condition.

Stephen, who is in LA but back on twitter again, has said that he maybe over reacted and will probably carry on ‘tweeting’ so good news there.

With Twitter anyone can give themselves a made up  ’nickname’ and therefore remain anonymous, I understand the person who tweeted Stephen in the first place got a lot of stick and horrid tweets sent back which is a shame, but everyone was on Stephens side, which is not a surprise as he is a well loved and very generous man.

Having  just last week been lucky enough to get a quick  ’interview’ with this talented guy, giving us his time, we are even more aware of what a great bloke he is….

So… is all the speed, ease, accessibility and anonymity which the Internet social networking affords us all a good or poss dangerous thing, twitter, emailing, facebook and blogging…. should we always be thinking twice…. re-read.. what we have written and then read again before we press SEND.

It’s there for ever…. a pic on facebook posted by a mate of you as a drunken crumbled heap on the floor at 20 years old seems quite funny… but when your 30 years old and going for the job of your dreams…. when your name is ‘googled’  and this is the image that flashes up on your prospective bosses screen… not so hot!!!

Its all good fun but we do need to be a little careful of what we put out there… is it all floating around in cyberspace just waiting to come back and bite us in the bum.

And Stephen,  come back to Twitter, we all enjoy following you xx
