When you think about it, it’s cheap but excellent telly… 5 chairs… bit of backing set, a few camera men, a sort of desk for Stephen to sit at being the teach and … Read More »

We found this fantastic photographer, she has prints and postcards printed with a difference.. a stunning vintage influence we hope you like these as much as we do… “I live in Brighton, UK; a bustling town by the sea. I love all things vintage and try to bring it into my work, often using old cameras. Imperfections are a big part of my work; dust, scratches and blurs, all these flaws add to the atmosphere and character of the images I produce.” cassia beck http://www.etsy.com/shop/CassiaBeck she has a wonderful selection. THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVE’ … Read More »

Daylesford Organic The genie only needed to have granted Aladdin one wish. And that wish would surely have been to go to Daylesford Organic, home and heartbeat of the stunning Bamford range. Daylesford Organic is my very favourite retail experience. It’s an evocative feast on the senses, with a palette of colours, textures and flavours that both stimulate and soothe the soul. Whether you want to completely restock your larder with the range of produce, much of which is straight from the Daylesford Organic farm, update your wardrobe, or simply buy a ball of string, at Daylesford Organic you can do it … Read More »
I heard yesterday morning that the man to whom I was married for 13 years and who was the father of my three children had died suddenly. Shock is a dynamic all of its own. Numbness leads to disbelief, to grief, to guilt and to questions, question, questions – and of course the task of telling three people whose lives will never be the same again, one of whom has learning difficulties and who will never really understand. Now isn’t about me, this is the time to support them and help them gain some sense of understanding and perspective, to just let them cry and to love … Read More »

Having first read about it in the summer (if you’ve forgotten what that it, it’s supposedly the time when skies are blue, grass is green and we all sip chilled white wine with our friends round the BBQ), I made a last minute dash to the Victoria and Albert Museum to see this stunning exhibition before it closes finally today. India is the most amazing country with contrasts and colours abound and a real sense of dignity and grace amongst its people. The treasures on show are exquisite, though its worth remembering the terrible poverty that sits alongside such wealth. Looking at the jewellery … Read More »

If your anything like me all your Christmas cards are sitting in a bag….waiting for a decision… I didn’t want to just chuck them out… and have found a few suggestion: First there is the Woodland Trust… they are running are recycling scheme with WHSmiths, M&S and TK Maxx. see details below…. or you could cut them up to use as next years present tags…. or Tescos are also running a recycling collection (check your local store) or put them in your local recycling bin! WHSmith UK mainland high street stores only – excludes all WHSmith Travel stores, Isle of Wight, Belfast and Channel … Read More »
I could sit here and write about Celeb Big Brother, Dancing on Ice, Glee, 30Rock, amusing anecdotes about Twitter or the latest ‘freeze jokes’ text to text… but I am sitting here with a heavy heart… Many years ago we lived in a very quiet little estate…most of the residents were retired, however one of the younger neighbours became good friends of the family. Mum would either be in their house or her friend would be in ours…. as kids we thought of them as part of our family. She has had several health prob’s over the years… breast cancer twice, a brain tumour and kidney problems but she … Read More »
In case you have run out of good books to read during the ‘big freeze’ here is a little peach….oooppps apple! Lovely, charming and easy reading plus you get an amazing recipe for fish pie…. I have (with the authors permission) taken an extract… so you get the flavour of the writing and the fish pie…. A darn good read….enjoy x She took the food out of the bag. The smoked haddock was dyed bright yellow but you probably couldn’t get the natural sort in Europa. A good big fillet of cod. Milk. Quail’s eggs. Button mushrooms. Capers. Prawns. Evangeline had done well, but … Read More »
It’s day 3 of the big freeze and I’m still housebound. So far, I’ve streamlined the filing cabinet, unearthed forgotten objects from the back of drawers and committed them to the dustbin and updated some photgraphs in frames. Desperation is setting in and I’ve also started buying on-line - dangerous in any circumstances – and looking at random sites. I’ve bought new eyeshadow, some kitchen crockery in the sale (a really, really good buy !) and some bedlinen, but it’s definitely time now to switch off the computer before I get carried away and start hitting the fashion sites. Or maybe just another zipped pillow protector… … Read More »

I’m the cool kid in school, captain of the netball team and everyone’s new best friend. Everyone loves me. Why? I drive a 4 x 4 car, and suddenly am running a taxi service to people stranded in the snow. Normally 4 x 4 drivers are the subject of criticism, but miraculously now people are finding out why we drive such cars if you live in a rural area. Stay warm everyone! Marigold x

There’s something very unseasonal about today’s snow. Isn’t today the kind of day we should have when writing Christmas cards, decorating the tree and pouring yet another glug of brandy over the cake? Bing Crosby singing ‘White Christmas’ is still ringing in my ears, as is that other song by another American crooner I can’t put a name to who sang ‘Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow’. A new year, not to mention a new decade, has put me in a detox frame of mind, full of great intentions and forward planning, though I seem to have time travelled back to Christmas! But … Read More »

One mans style can be another mans ’joke’…and so it should be… “wouldn’t do if we were all alike” as my mother used to say… Recently purchased, although have to wait till March for delivery, what’s that about, I will have completely forgotten it by then… however back to… purchased a soft leather lounger/chair… in red, daughter horrified at the ‘red’ and even more so at the ‘leather’…. but I am quietly confidant that it will work in the room I have in mind for it (all dark greys and a big red painting on the wall… plus lots of other black and … Read More »
