Maharaja

Having first read about it in the summer (if you’ve forgotten what that it, it’s supposedly the time when skies are blue, grass is green and we all sip chilled white wine with our friends round the BBQ), I made a last minute dash to the Victoria and Albert Museum to see this stunning exhibition before it closes finally today.

India is the most amazing country with contrasts and colours abound and a real sense of dignity and grace amongst its people.   The treasures on show are exquisite, though its worth remembering the terrible poverty that sits alongside such wealth.  Looking at the jewellery and heavily embellished textiles its easy to see where bling was born, and you could say that in India, more is more and sadly,  less is less.

Channel 4 is currently running an Indian season, and its worth catching some of the films on offer.   I loved Slumdog Millionaire last week, and in the absence of enough money to go there myself, I can’t wait to see more.
