My hubby filled the dish washer… which I then re-stacked! he gave me filthy look which I returned ten fold…
We then had a discussion on the right/wrong way to fill a dish washer, it lasted about an hour! other ‘stuff ‘came up, as it will at times like this… in the end he asked if I had read the Times this week a] I hadn’t had time because I was busy filling and emptying the washing machine, dishwasher, changing hover bags, etc etc etc and b] it threw me off track so discussion was over… but enough of my domestic bliss the point of this blog post is the differences between the male and female ‘common sense’.
Men can design and build cars/planes/rockets/tractors/computers, right done to the finest tiny bit! and yet cannot see that a hoover bag needs to be emptied.. the red light on the side tells us this along with the stinky smell a full bag gives off…
My hub is brilliant at so many things and yet he cannot quite get the hang of stacking the dishwasher so that things can come out clean! tends to put everything on top of each other, using the term stack to the full.
And if he is going to hand wash the odd mug… he turns on hot tap… holds mug under and bing bang bong its done! then it’s dried on a clean tea towel leaving all the coffee stains on said towel… it drives me insane, he will open a draw or cupboard to retrieve something but leaves it open… and I HAVE MANY BRUISES TO PROVE IT..
Do men do the housework badly so we won’t ask again… I have heard myself saying ” oh god, let me do it” in a rather superior voice and he wanders off to watch telly of read paper!
The other point of this ‘debate’ is that how do I know that the dishwasher requires salt and rinse aid, the hoover bag does need changing, the colours and white do NOT go in together, the iron does need water for it too steam, that the filters on both washing machines need to be emptied and cleaned every now and then, the shower heads need de-scaling and yet no one taught me those things… they are common sense… aren’t they?
But on the positive side if the inside of the oven needs cleaning he is the man… he is very happy to iron his shirts (something I hate doing) and even if they are not completely crease free he is happy so am I!
Needless to say we each have our ‘jobs in the house’ and I am not complaining, when I see my friends and their other halves I am thankful mine will help, even if I have to point it out first…but I reckon we are about equal….there are some lazy slobs out there!
I am simply asking why the difference! I don’t want to be the House Frau.. I see myself more as the Domestic Goddess…. what is your OH like at domestic duties?
