I never thought I’d be writing this but….

I never thought in writing a blog I’d post something on football – even though I know I will be one of those women secretly enjoying the World Cup in June.

But my heart really goes out to David Beckham this week, with his hopes of playing in a record fourth World Cup dashed through injury.  I am no particular fan of either Mr or Mrs Beckham, but there are some things money can’t buy, and in many cases dreams are one of those.  

Disappointment is something that in many cases doesn’t get easier to bear as you get older.  OK, so maybe we can all live without a longed for item of clothing, hard to come by tickets or even a holiday.  But when you’ve worked for something for so long  and secretly lived every minute of achieving it, the pain of disappointment can be hard to bear.  These aren’t material things, but real life goals and the things that make us feel really whole, valued and alive inside.   I wish David and his achillees tendon a speedy recovery.  Come to think of it, its strange its his tendon that snapped, when you consider Victoria’s choice of footwear!
