RESPECT and COURTESY FOR ALL PLEASE

I am driving along minding my own as they say and a BMW cuts me up… well I call him a few choice words.. in the peace and privacy of my own car, muttering about ’no courtesy on the roads’ and just get on with my journey.

Ok I am now on a dual carriageway and the guy in the slow lane is going  ridiculously slow… I am watching in my wing mirror, getting ready to over take… signal…etc when a car from NOWHERE is coming up in the fast lane going ridiculously fast, so I hover and wait until he has gone pass me to make my move… but oh no this jerk slows right down so he is beside me, we are all three of us going snail pace… the jerk is smiling in a horrid slime-ball smug way and I want to smack him very hard across that smile… the poor guy in the slow lane is trying to slow down even more which is making matters worse and the jerk slows too.

Now the question is WHY?? why would the jerk behave in such a knobby way, what’s the pay off for him… we are all now doing about 20mph on a dual carriageway… it’s so stupid and possibly dangerous as I can see in my wing mirror more cars coming up the fast lane! why did this complete arse think it was funny to trap me in like that.

No respect for his fellow human being.

If I see someone trying to get out of a road, change lane or tricky driveway onto the road I let them, it’s one car for goodness sake, and it’s a simple courtesy.

When I finally get home, in one piece, the builders are next door again, this is a new build, it has been on and off and has been going on longer than ‘war and peace’    They are, again, cutting bricks or slabs or something with white fine dust. They do this every summer, a few days here, a few days there, and it is usually when I have had the windows cleaned and I have a line FULL of washing.

So yet again I go round there and ask, very nicely, “could they possibly cut the stone the other side of their building so the dust stay’s with them not over my washing etc”.

I just want to be able to use my garden when it’s dry and sunny, maybe sit and read a book in peace! maybe have lunch with a friend out there without getting covered in dust and having my ear drums ruined!  They think this is very funny, for 4 years now we have had this conversation and I am really bored with it and every year I pray that the house will be finished and sold!

Again it is the lack of respect for us, as neighbours and fellow human beings, the builder isn’t in the least bit worried about us feeling pissed off with him, he really does not care.

Like the jerk in his car it’s every man for himself, we all try hard to bring up our children to show respect for their elders, teachers, doctors and policemen. This lack of respect and courtesy is definitely getting worse.

One day when out with my little one we were going into a shop, an elderly lady was just behind us so I opened the door, we held back, she walked through and on her way bumped my child, quite roughly too and you know what…it was my child saying sorry!

That woman not only did not bother say sorry for pushing and nearly knocking my child over, but not even a whispered ’thank you’ for us holding the door open either… how can that help a child to show respect and courtesy for the older generation when they are so rude.

Sometimes I feel maybe we should be teaching our kids something different to respect, which will be a great shame… maybe they need to know how to survive life and keep smiling when there are so many complete and utter selfish arses in the world.

    Amen.

It’s selfishness, pure and simple. And I can’t see it getting better. I do worry about what sort of “I’m alright Jack” world L is going to grow up in.

Is there a solution? I was in the Czech Republic and it’s so different there… people in general kinda seemed surlier (sales assistants don’t kiss arse etc) but the general respect for each other was totally apparent. Holding doors, stepping onto the road to let other’s pass on narrow pavements, giving up seats on crowded trams to people who needed it more… all that COURTESY stuff.

In 40yrs time we’ll be barricaded in our homes… suspicious of one another. I’ve depressed myself now!
