Realizing my passport ran out last month I had a mild panic, I may not need it quite yet but what a shocker.
Off to the post office, I picked up the form, filled in and according to the lovely lady behind the counter, I did it badly, going over the box edges, only slightly I must tell you, who can write that small? and using blue ink! it was ten years ago and I had forgotten all these rules, I am not good at reading all the blurb that go with the forms! I will next time.
Second attempt went much better, felt I had got my gold star for form filling, went off to get a photo… well who knew this was going to be such a big deal, keep hair out of eyes (but I look kinda sexy this way, peeking through fringe!) look straight into the camera, but I look better from the right, just a slight right would be ok? NO, and do not smile, Oh come on your kidding me, I was not showing teeth in a big beamer… just a hint of a smile to take away the criminal look!
This was a really lovely, lovely photographer in the local high street camera shop, who was very sympathic and very encouraging and I have to say a little flirty! he told me that hundreds of photo’s get rejected because of fringes, some spec’s and slight smiles, so I stared into the lens and came out with a little photo where I was looking 120yrs old with no hair!
Back to the wonderful postie lady with new the form and the ugly photo, she went through it for me at a cost of £8.00 and may I say worth every penny.
How nice is it when you can have a good time doing something really dull, meet very helpful and kind people who seem to enjoy doing their job and although when I looked at my old passport pix I am horrified at the changes… and I now look like a criminal! but I do have a crease free, cleaned up and ten years worth of a new passport. Job done.
