CARBS… GOOD OR EVIL

Last week I was reading a very interesting article about carbs and how to burn them off. (wallchart for gluttons) I was struck by the ‘value’ of carbs/calories of some these foods.

One sausage roll has 61 cals and yet a cream cheese/smoke salmon bagal 229 cals…  found that a shocker!

I am not and have never been a carb/cal counter and was amazed ..who knew (yep bet you all did) that one mug of hot chocolate has 215 cals and yet a slice of garlic bread has 145… I do love both as it happens, but garlic bread with all that dribbling butter less than hot choc!

A Snickers bar has the same amount as one KFC chicken drum stick…guess which I am going for!

250ml Fanta Zero 8 cals, or Bucks Fizz 110 cals again NO BRAINER…

My most disappointing discovery  is that a tube of Smarties has 456 cals and it’s a shame because I do love Smarties, it’s all too easy to up the tube straight into your mouth…ooops, am I the only one that does that? but a pint of beer only has 182 cals, OH very happy with that.

In the article it did list how you could burn off the offending carbs but to be honest I just got so hungry and drooled over the paper that I have no idea what they were… think ironing was involved so mentally switched off at that point.

I  have now used the list as my shopping list for next week, selecting all the low carbs, it does look odd and unhealthy but it’s all very low carb! so win win.

I’m now going to buy myself one of the new Magnums with a million types of chocolate in it… think it had 10,0000 cals so may need to do ironing on a trampoline to even it all out.

I count carbs (on and off) it’s the only way I’ve successfully lost weight in recent years. I don’t count calories though…

When I’m being strict, I allow myself 25-50g of carbs for my main meal, I just read the back of packets… it’s amazing how low carbs go hand in hand with what we KNOW are healthy meals anyway.

One of my lowest carb meals is a lovely pork stir fry with a whole cabbage chopped into it, Szechuan tomato sauce and 1/4 cup of brown rice mixed in. Yum!
