HOME HELP…

Waking up and seeing the sun again is a wonderfully life affirming thing, but my smile rapidly turned to tears this morning hearing the news that a  mother and her severely disabled daughter have been found dead in their home.

First reports indicate they may have been undiscovered for up to 6 weeks, the mother, it appears initially, having died from natural causes leaving her disabled daughter alone and unable to look after herself.  Investigations are still in the early stages, but the possible scenario is too painful to imagine.

How can this happen?  No-one yet knows the full circumstances and it would be very wrong to make assumptions, but where were friends, family, neighbours, Social Services?  Maybe they tried to help and couldn’t.  Is the mail still delivered?  Are there items piling up on the doorstep?   Where is everyone?  Where were we?

The simple answer is we are all guilty to some extent of being so wrapped up in our own lives, we often fail to see what is happening right under our noses.  Too busy, too stressed, always flying about in a rush here and there and yet often hopelessly self centered in our own world and unknowingly failing to notice when  tragedies like the one that is unfolding on our screens today occur.

No one wants nosey neighbours watching their every move, but I for one and going to really think beyond that today and be the friend/neighbour I would want others to be for me.
