Downton Abbey

A perfect evening in – central heating (freezing weather outside), Sunday Papers, X Factor and the first episode of the much heralded Downton Abbey. It didn’t disappoint – wonderful characters (Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville), elegant fashion, wicked one-liners, Upstairs, Downstairs politics and a developing plot. My Sunday evenings for the next 6 weeks are complete. marigold x

Not a good week

I have no-one to blame but myself, but it hasn’t been a good week detox wise.  My resolve hasn’t slipped,  but one weekend at Goodwood Revival has done a disproportionate amount of damage to my otherwise squeaky clean detox. I’m telling myself its because I’d been eating such a clean diet that a sudden change of eating and drinking had such an effect.  And believe me reader when I tell you that I was still being careful.  It didn’t help that it was very, very cold one day which meant I just had to snack to keep warm – and of course drink coffee!  … Read More »

Amazing Grace

Grace Kelly is a name synonomous with style, elegance and old fashioned Hollywood glamour.  Forget today’s celebrities, Grace Kelly really was a film star who married her prince. An exhibition of her life and fashion is currently showing at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, but ends this weekend on 26th September. Catch it now while you can and breathe in the romance of another era. marigold x

REVIVAL REVISITED

The Fabulous Fifties! Well, not strictly just the fifties, but if there is one decade that dominates the fantastic Goodwood Revival, then the fifties is she. The event celebrations a golden era of motor racing, with cars dating from far earlier last century up to 1966, but if the prominence of seamed stockings and furs is anything to go by then the 50′s are your default setting. Mods mix with tweed clad ladies, war worn (literally) sheepskin bomber jackets sit aside skin tight satin (think Olivia Newton John in Grease) and everywhere, just everywhere, is glossy red lipstick, applied with military precision and outlining … Read More »

READER, THIS DETOX IS WORKING

Its mid September, mid detox and I can honestly say I’m feeling better.  The continuous dull headache I had at the beginning, probably due to less caffeine, has gone and I have more energy.  I’m sleeping better and although I have weighed myself, I’m not going to discuss degrees of weight loss as for me, this detox is  more about health than dieting. I haven’t eaten less, but I’ve tried hard to have very little alchohol or rich food, and although I’ve just had half a glass of wine (well, it is Friday after all) I’m stopping there and don’t want any more.  And a … Read More »

NEARLY HALF WAY THERE WITH THE DETOX

It’s nearing the end of week 2 of the early autumn detox.  How’s it going?  Well, I can absolutely guarantee that if I didn’t have any type of regime in mind the chances are I would have eaten less and listened to my body’s signals rather than deny or restrict myself or eat what I thought was doing me good rather than what my body told me it wanted.  I am lucky in that I’ve never been a binge eater and don’t have sugar cravings, but I have been trying to eat ‘cleaner’ food and less dairy, helped I am sure by drinking an increased … Read More »

STUCK AT HOME…. ON CRUTCHES

I recently had a little mishap resulting in a knackered knee…I have hurt this knee before so although very painful I thought it would be fine, getting around was bit tough and difficult! but I was just about coping. Yesterday I saw a physio, turns out I have torn some ligaments and tendons which is worse than a break… who knew! I have also twisted my ankle (on the other leg) which is now looking a delightful shade of purple and yellow, again tearing ligaments and tendons, (no wonder that bloody hurt) both these injuries take much longer than a break to heal… months was … Read More »
