I’ve just had my second application of semi-permanent eye-liner and Cleo is back! Well, OK, if not Cleopatra, I’m certainly appear much less Miss Piggy and my eyes look perfectly outlined. It was the same procedure as the first time, only with a slightly thicker line meaning the process took a little longer and was marginally more uncomfortable. I think this was only because my eyes started to swell slightly after a while, and it definitely wasn’t painful. There’s no disguising this is an unusual sensation, but in terms of beauty treatments, for me it’s a picnic compared to some waxing. No tensed muscles and waiting for … Read More »

I’ve been loving Case Histories, the BBC’s adaptation of Kate Atkinson’s brilliant novels currently shown on Sunday and Monday nights. There’s always a sense of anticipation when one of your favourite author’s work is brought to the screen, but although the wonderfully rich dialogue Kate employs is bound to be lost on TV, there’s no shortage of twists, turns, eccentric characters and the unexpected. Great casting with Jason Isaacs as Private Investigator Jackson Brodie and a healthy dose of glam ladies. If you haven’t caught Case Histories yet, either catch up on BBC i player or make a date for Sunday night at 9.00 pm. But do dip into Kate’s books, you … Read More »

Cupcake and I have long since extolled the virtues of Argan oil. For those of you who are not yet converts to this drop of elixir, the Argan tree is native to northern Morocco and has similar properties to the much better known olive. You can use the oil for cooking and in a whole range of beauty treatments and if you have ever been lucky enough to enjoy spa treatments in Morocco, you will know it forms the base of many of their lotions and potions. Having fine hair, I’ve never thought of using hair oil, but am an absolute convert to a … Read More »
I am a massive fan of essential oils, I use aromatherapy a lot for the family and friends, one of my ‘must have’s ‘ in the first aid box is Tea Tree Oil. I have a bottle in my bag, car, kitchen and garage… yes I am a little obsessive! but it is the magic oil for me, love the smell…clean and fresh and of course its healing properties…. so imagine my delight when I came across METIQUE, TEA TREE OILS WITH A DIFFERENCE. They have a range of products all formulated with natural vitamin E which keeps the product stable and that not … Read More »
It’s now 10 days since my first session of eye enhancements and I can’t tell you how good it feels to be out of the ‘special care’ period and be able to stand under the shower with the tap turned to full throttle and feel water all over my face. I became quite adept at showering and washing my hair under a micro trickle with no spray, but now the enhancements are at a stage with no more dry bits flaking off, I can more or less forget I had the treatment and life returns to normal. And yes, I’m really pleased! As I … Read More »

Well, I bit the bullet, wrote the cheque, kicked off my shoes and lay on the couch. And it started – my journey into semi-permanent eye make up had begun. First the numbing cream – a doddle, how brave am I? Then a bit of a chat, a discussion about colours and tints and explanantion of what was to come, and then we were off. A firm and confident hand steadied my eye lid and the machine started its magic, moving swiftly across my eyelid with no hint of pain, just a strange ‘tickling’ sensation not unlike an electric toothbrush. I can’t remember if the … Read More »
