Actor Mathew Bose is best know to many for his role of Paul Lambert in  Emmerdale. He has an amazing career including a role in  East is East, he is currently on stage in a touring production of Alan Ayckbourn’s SEASON GREETINGS
Mathew Bose won his first role at 23, and has since appeared in many shows including the TV sitcom, My Family, Cutting It, Silent Witness, D-Day and Coupling. Mathew also conducted interviews for, hosted and narrated the 2001 documentary, American Mullet (and the internet shorts The Mullet Chronicles). He has also worked in Italy, most prominently playing Alfredo Ferrari the son of Enzo Ferrari in a bio-pic of the Ferrari family.
In Emmerdale, his storylines focused on Paul’s love life as well as his complicated relationship with his parents. Bose told producers of his intense dislike of Paul’s one-night stand with Grayson Sinclair, as he felt this was out of character and made gay men look promiscuous.

Mathew is Celebrity Ambassador for the UK and Ireland charity The Encephalitis Society; and is a patron of The Scratching Post, a cat rescue charity based in Hertfordshire
When he was young, Mathew’s family moved to India. Most people don’t realise I’m half Indian he reveals to Inside Soap. At the age of six, he returned to England to stay with his aunt. He has also lived in Milan, Paris, New York, and Los Angeles. Mathew now splits his time between Leeds and his home in London.

Hi Mathew thanks for this interview, apart from being a drop dead dish on screen and stage you paint, multi talented…tell us about your trip into the art world..

Cupcake   where do you sit with nature or nurture?
Wow huge question. But I’d have to go with nature. I do think nurture affects and effects tho…!
Cupcake   stage or screen? Which do you feel most comfortable?
Both really. I adore both. Stage is the thrill of creating something unique and whole with a live audience but there is something intimate and perversely detailed about the way screen projects are pieced together, manipulated for effect.
Cupcake   do you believe in the afterlife?
I like the idea of it more than returning as a stag beetle or some such…
Cupcake    what do you look for when a new script lands on your door mat?
The catch! I always hope I can immediately visualise the whole project and a starting point for my character.
Cupcake    how do you feel about reality t.v?
I’d be indifferent if it weren’t for the alarming way it feeds (should that be starves?) the rest of the world.
Cupcake     would you be the cop or the robber?
The cops have better outfits. I’d want a cape though…
Cupcake    who is your idol?
I’m rather partial to Annie Lennox. Seems like an all round talented and good egg. Sally the head female chimp at Monkey World is an equal. She can teach us all a thing or ten…
Cupcake    your favourite actor/actress
Laura Linney is a phenomena to behold in modern actors. I’ll always watch Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant tho…!
Cupcake    flights of fancy or both feet on the ground?
The two in symbiotic loveliness I’d say! A dream realised through practical and actionable processes. Bliss.
Cupcake    how old were you when you KNEW you wanted to act?
As a 2year old I was dubbed the Henry Irving of Clapham! So…
Cupcake     long walks or feet up with a book?
I’m greedy clearly by my answers cos I want both! Beautiful ramble through the Yorkshire moors then feet up in my pub!
Cupcake   townie or country boy?
City boy through and through I would have said. Desperate to live in NYC…but living in Yorkshire has begun to change all that…
Cupcake   do you read your reviews?
I try not to. But when people insist on saying things like, ‘I don’t agree with so-and-so in the blah blah, I didn’t think you were wooden at all…’ then one is forced to see the full horror…
Cupcake    G&T or beer?
I love cocktails. But my pub has changed that. I now have an appreciation for beer. Vital part of the Yorkshire lifestyle…!
Cupcake    how do you set about learning your lines? Seasons Greetings for example?
I read through then read and read again. The words seem to go in. Movements help seal things. Memory is visual really.
Cupcake   do you prefer a panel game show or a documentary?
Documentary. Completely. Utterly. Totally.. Beyond all shadows of any doubts…
Cupcake   coffee or tea?
Coffee. Ditto.
Cupcake    do you twitter?
Yes! Nothing important just dross.
Cupcake    I love black and white movies. Do you have a favourite genre of film, maybe horror or Film Noir, comedy or documentary?
I love all that ‘screwball comedy’ era. Cary et al. But I’m a softy for a Busby Berkeley number too…!
Cupcake    What was the last thing you read?
I’m reading The Lacuna and it’s by Barbara Kingsolver the divine Richard Grieve gave it to me. I love being given books as recommendations.
Cupcake     What’s your favourite comedy TV programme, present or past?
I grew up with Victoria Wood shows so they’re imprinted on my mind. I can recite whole scenes in fact…! Playing all the parts of course…Not The Nine O’clock News and Blackadder are wonderful and iconic. I’m partial to The Thin Blue Line too…hmmm lots of Rowan Atkinson eh?
Cupcake    cosy night in or fav restaurant?
So many restaurants I love! My pub’s new chef is a marvel so I think my place is my newest fave! But a cosy night in with my speciality manhattan cocktails and a bit of iplayer documentary catch up…heaven
Cupcake     Although the news is generally all doom and gloom at the moment, what do you feel is man’s greatest accomplishment, so far?
It’s a toss up between bourbon and the coloured pencil…
Cupcake    Bath or shower?
Greedy me again but I love a bath. Candles and music. But have to shower after! Bit OCD I know. So I stick to showers. Which is another great human accomplishment….
Cupcake    If you could only take one bottle of good wine on a desert island which would it be, red or white?
Prosecco. I’m having my blood replaced with it.. That’s how much I love it. Deeply shallow…
Cupcake     Chocolate or cheese?
Oh no!!! This is so unfair! (cue heaps of whinging) I adore cheese and live for chocolate. So if you’re going to be so awful as to make me choose then I’ll have to say chocolate…grudgingly!
Cupcake    What would say is your most annoying habit? and best attribute?
Always being right. Being so modest about it…
Cupcake   Beatles or Santana ?
Can I say Alison Moyet?!? Ok Santana then…Santana playing the Beatles?
Cupcake    What would your ‘bucket list’ include? name 4 or 5 things you simply have to do before….
Live in NYC. Have a full scale art exhibition. Finish writing my novel. Learn to speak a foreign language fluently – either Italian or Bengali!’
Cupcake    What’s your signature dish in the kitchen, beans on toast or the Sunday Roast or?
I make a legendary sweet potato lasagne. My modesty knows no bounds…!
Cupcake    ice cream or summer pudding?
Ice Cream!
Cupcake    spend or save?
Save. Save. Save. But only to spend. Life is too unpredictable to hoard…
Cupcake    do you forgive easily?
Oh yes…but I never forget…
Cupcake   gym or run
Run
Cupcake   cashmere or silk
Cashmere. Touch factor is paramount!
Cupcake  What is your favourite magazine
I’m rather excited about magazines like Olive and Good Food. I said I was greedy!
Cupcake  What is your favourite pudding?
Lemon Meringue Pie
Cupcake    Are you happier with the dresscode of smart or casual?
Overall casual. But what man doesn’t look handsome in a suit?!?
