How many of us avoid the subject of death and funerals, I do…bet we all do, well I have been chatting to a young lady who has a company which helps you have any kind of funeral you want… she is the most gentle and amazing woman who has taken the fear out of the whole subject and I for one have become her biggest fan.

Poppy’s was founded by Poppy Mardall because she wanted to help people take creative control of their funerals.
She feels strongly that everyone deserves a ‘good’ funeral. It should be a funeral that reflects the person who has died. It should be a funeral to be proud of.
Before founding Poppy’s, Poppy has been a volunteer (Samaritans and Trinity Hospice) and a Deputy Director at Sotheby’s.
A modern funeral company providing simple cremations. Giving families the freedom to hold a funeral ceremony wherever, whenever and however they want.

Imagine having all the horrid paper work done for you, the cremation sorted and then choosing what you really want to happen with your loved one, a real personal and unique time without all the formality, time to grieve. I was so impressed by Poppy, her passion for helping people to do what they want rather than having to be tied to go the conventional route. Poppy’s is recommended by the Good Funeral Guide 2012.
“Lots of us struggle to find meaning in the traditional funeral – the hearse, limousines, embalming and undertakers in black. If this is not in keeping with how you lived your life, why choose this for your funeral?”
A simple, affordable cremation separates the cremation from the funeral ceremony. The ashes are returned to you, giving you the freedom to hold a funeral, memorial or celebration of life wherever, whenever and however you choose.

Legal documentation
Firstly, Poppy’s will help you complete the following paperwork checklist. All of these documents are straightforward and we’ll be happy to guide you through.
- Certificate for Burial or Cremation: Provided by the registrar when you register the death.
- Cremation 1: Application to the crematorium for the cremation.
- Cremation 4 and Cremation 5: Two certificates to be signed by two separate doctors confirming the cause of death.
- Notice of Cremation: Details of the cremation and what you want to do with the ashes.
(In some cases where the coroner is involved, Cremation 4, 5, and the Certificate for Burial or Cremation are replaced by forms provided by the coroner.)

Freed up from the crematorium, and with the ashes portable, almost anything is possible. The ceremony could be held:
Where you like…
At home, in the garden, on a hilltop or on a boat. It could be in the town hall, church or at your favourite pub. It could be a memorial bike ride or a picnic. Ashes can be scattered or buried as part of the ceremony. They can be kept at home or transported abroad.
When you like…
You can take as much time as you like to plan a ceremony. It could be in a month, a few months or you could wait for the summer.
How you like…
It could be led by a vicar, a celebrant, a friend or a family member. Or you may decide not to hold a funeral at all.
It’s entirely up to you. If you’re not sure what to do, we’d be very happy to talk through some ideas. If you would like advice or help to create a meaningful funeral, memorial or celebration of life, we can recommend some outstanding celebrants to plan and lead a truly personal ceremony wherever you choose. You can find more information about this on our FAQ page.
Value
London is the most expensive place to die in the UK. Charles Cowling’s Good Funeral Guide estimates the average cost of dying in London in 2010 was £8,020, with many of the contributing costs coming from the traditional funeral accessories.
Choosing a simple cremation at Poppy’s means you can spend your money on a ceremony that is meaningful for you.
