42nd Street and Pygmalion
‘Too much of a good thing can be wonderful’ said Mae West. Clever girl. I thought the same when driving home from Chichester Festival Theatre a couple of nights ago. The story goes something like this. Last year I was taken to the aforementioned theatre and posted a review on this very blogspot. So I couldn’t believe my luck when I received two invitations … Read More »
Ground zero
This week I’m celebrating (is that the right word?) a ‘zero’ birthday. Another decade passed, and very much a time for reflection. I’ve been thinking of all the things I’ve learnt, lost and gained over those 10 years, some silly, some scary, some sentimental. So here goes! LOST A much loved father and sister, a schoolfriend who was far too young, a quite frightening amount of skin … Read More »
Boys with balls
Tennis. (What else would this be about?) Love or hate the game, aren’t you going to miss the style and elegance of those tennis players after today’s men’s finals? Not to mention the pleasure of the one time you can genuinely say men look really good in shorts, even when they are wearing socks! Marigold xx
Out of the desert!
After what seems like an age, I’m back on line, back on blog and feel like I’ve re-joined the world. How can a major computer glitch have such an impact on your life? It’s maddening, but I can’t tell you the feeling of relief and re-control I now have. I’ve been in this internet and information desert and at last I’ve found my oasis. Firstly, … Read More »
Team Cupcake
This week is a very special one for team Cupcake. One of those moments in time you remember in years to come, and a moment of magic to capture and cherish. I’m with you all the way Cupcake and co. Stay strong and smile and just love every minute – these will be the memories which will soothe your soul. Go girl! Marigold xxx
Chelsea
Nature is a wonderfully life affirming thing. A metaphor for good conquering evil and the sun shining quite literally after all the rain – and of course who could forget the snow – of this past winter. With just a little bit of love and TLC, those hidden gems under your frozen soil will delight you once again. And where better to experience the very … Read More »
Why shoeboots?
Fashion has no logic. Trends come and go, and at first glimpse of a new design on the catwalk you can pretty well tell if you are going to go with it or not. OK, so some things take a while to get your head around – puffball skirts for instance. I remember when I first saw them way back when thinking they were … Read More »
Democracy
3 double duvet covers, 12 pillow cases, 15 (yes!) towels – no wonder the White Company is so succesful – 12 loo rolls, half my hair shampoo and conditioner, one missing mascara, 2 legs of lamb, 2 kg of potatoes, fresh noodles, 4 red peppers, a bunch of spring onions, Nurofen, 3 babygrows (long time since I’ve washed one of them), a case of … Read More »
Back in action
I’m just back from a wonderful week away and now, three days later, have only just surfaced from the washing/ironing/sorting of e-mails/phoning family/paying bills/clearing up of dead wasps (and worse) that have found their way into my formerly spotless house (how dare they?!)/weeding the garden/mowing the lawn (well OK, not exactly me mowing) and re-stocking the fridge. Not sure why I did the latter as … Read More »
Loving la Lumley
Its so reassuring to know at a time when we are locked in pre-election fever and the fall out of the first televised election debate, and similar fall out from an Icelandic volcano that seems to have paralysed half the world, the very lovely Joanna Lumley is there on our TV screens to soothe and stimulate with her adventures travelling down the Nile. Part glamour … Read More »
Dhruv did it!
Congratulations Dhruv – you deserve your Masterchef champion title having been the most consistent and inspiring of all the three finalists – no silly clever bits and everything always full of flavour – or so John and Greg tell us. But how will we ever know? – perhaps when you open your dream restaurant….. in the meantime I’m off to buy the cookery book. I … Read More »
Masterchef revisited
Would you believe it? Just as I am transfixed by Dhruv’s wedding ring finger, he loses the aforementioned gold band in his first course! Sorry Dhruv – didn’t mean to tempt fate… Last night’s second leg of this year’s final didn’t disappoint and I’m not sure whether I’m excited about tonight or sad that the series will be over for another year. I’m sorry, but the celebrity version … Read More »
Masterchef
Is anyone else totally hooked on Masterchef? I thought last nights episode of the first leg of this year’s final, filmed in fabulous Jodphur, was just inspiring. My favourite to win is Druv – pity they keep showing his wedding ring finger complete with gold band as I have a daughter I’d like to pair off, but that aside, for me he has that … Read More »
The pain of parenting
A girlfriend in her late 30′s has just fallen pregnant after several failed attempts at IVF. We are all over the moon for her and her joy and the sheer sense of magic she is enjoying is wonderful to see. But she has had a very, very painful journey, and one which I can readily relate to. No one who hasn’t suffered the agony … Read More »
Just smell the lavender
Cupcake has done it again – got me into huge trouble with her shopping search and now has me addicted to looking at the French Bedroom Company I’ve always been totally in love with everything French, from expensive Chanel to more affordable soap from Marseille, from romantic holidays in the capital to breakfasts of warm croissants and apricot jam. Just looking at the website … Read More »
D Day
Love Cupcake’s new Alexa. Not jealous in the slightest of course, as have my eye on two perfect little ‘D’s! Firstly, the Daphne from Smythson, and secondly the D bag from Todd’s. Decisions, decisions. Just as well the budget doesn’t allow. Marigold x
I have a life
It isn’t very often that a TV advert really makes an impact on me, but I have been so impressed by the power and simplicity of the current dementia awareness advertisements. ‘I have dementia and I have a life’ says it all really. Lets not judge those around us whom we don’t understand and who at times can be frustrating – it’s scary just … Read More »
I never thought I’d be writing this but….
I never thought in writing a blog I’d post something on football – even though I know I will be one of those women secretly enjoying the World Cup in June. But my heart really goes out to David Beckham this week, with his hopes of playing in a record fourth World Cup dashed through injury. I am no particular fan of either Mr … Read More »
I think I’m really rather clever
Well, I’m not really that clever at all but I’ve managed to get my head round my terminal hard drive and have spent the last week piecing together deleted e-mails, printed off documents and searching in the depths of my memory, which lets face it these days isn’t that deep at all, and have sort of created a back up all of my own … Read More »
Hard drive headache
A couple of days ago my hard drive died. Well, not strictly my hard drive, the devious litttle devise lurking in the depths of my laptop which somehow makes all the words miraculously appear on screen and e-mails arrive by first class post. I’m totally lost without it, and early prognosis is that its terminal. To make matters worse, the mouse on major back up computer has also … Read More »
