The hardest thing to get right with make up is foundation. Too little and your skin looks smudgy and you look ill – too much and you can look tired, old and desperate. The dilemma of what to buy is never helped by the stark lighting in shops and extremely random colours on websites. Toones change with texture – a matt foundation gives a duller look yet a fresh, satin finish can look greasy. Last week a friend of ours rang Selfridges, the Armani counter, looking for a new mascara and was helped by a wonderful guy called Daniel Maxwell, he was witty, kind and even gave tips about the requested mascaras.
