AH SO NEAR THE TRUTH IT’S NOT FUNNY…ONLY IT REALLY IS While conducting some business at the Courthouse, I overheard a lady, who had been arrested for assaulting a Mammogram Technician, say, “Your Honor, I’m guilty but…..there were extenuating circumstances.” > The female Judge said, sarcastically, “I’d certainly like to hear those extenuating circumstances.” I did too soooo…… I listened as the lady told her story. > “Your Honor, I had a mammogram appointment, which I actually kept. I was met by this perky little clipboard carrier smiling from ear to ear and she tilted her head to one side and crooned, “Hi! I’m … Read More »
As reported in the newspaper… SADLY I HAVE TO REPORT I NICKED THESE BUT THEY ARE VERY FUNNY Commenting on a complaint from a Mr. Arthur Purdey about a large gas bill, a spokesman for North West Gas said, “We agree it was rather high for the time of year. It’s possible Mr. Purdey has been charged for the gas used up during the explosion that destroyed his house.” (The Daily Telegraph) _____ Irish police are being handicapped in a search for a stolen van, because they cannot issue a description. It’s a Special Branch vehicle and they don’t want the public to know … Read More »

The other day I had lunch with an extraordinary man, he was very witty, warm and utterly charming, a good way.. plus he had stories galore, hours just zoomed past and I laughed till I cried. Let me introduce you to ANDREW JACK, he is a leading dialect coach in Britain and the USA, with the advantage of both teaching and performing backgrounds. The combination of these skills creates in him an exceptional understanding of the performers’ needs. Andrew has worked on over 80 major motion pictures from 1982–present. WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF, INSTEAD OF THREE WISE MEN, IT HAD BEEN THREE WISE WOMEN? THEY WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR DIRECTIONS, ARRIVED ON TIME, HELPED DELIVER THE BABY, CLEANED THE STABLE, BROUGHT PRACTICAL GIFTS, AND MADE A CASSEROLE… AND THERE WOULD BE PEACE ON EARTH.

What an amazing summer of television – and lets face it, how often do we ever say that? Who cared about the rain?! We started with the buzz of the Queen’s Jubilee, we galloped through documentaries with the pace of Chariots of Fire into the sublime Olympics and a whole nation united with the cheers and tears of heroic pursuits. No sooner had we all come down from the closing ceremony, then it was focus Paralympics, with Lucy Gannon’s ‘The Best of Men’ being one of the most informative, educational, emotional and entertaining programmes on TV this year. Sir Jimmy Saville brought Stoke Mandeville … Read More »

A Perfect Husband Several men are in the locker room of a squash club. A cell phone on a bench rings and a man engages the hands-free speaker function and begins to talk. Everyone else in the room stops to listen. MAN: “Hello” WOMAN: “Hi Honey, it’s me . Are you at the club?” MAN: “Yes.” WOMAN: “I’m at the shops now and found this beautiful leather coat. It’s only £2,000. Is it OK if I buy it?” MAN: “Sure, go ahead if you like it that much.” WOMAN: “I also stopped by the Lexus dealership and saw the new models. I saw one … Read More »

Is anyone else as obsessed as me with Homeland? Sunday nights have changed gear from a gentle TV drama in third gear to full throttle spy/sex/whodunnit/thriller series with absolutely no chance of leaving you with a warm Sunday feeling, but thrusting you head first into the fast lane of Monday morning. Homeland is fast and furious, racy and raunchy yet with surprisingly gentle and tender moments which only serve to enhance the seriousness and frightening probability of the plot. Confused? Ok, we’re talking Washington DC, and an American hostage returned to his native shores after 8 years captivity. Is he ‘turned’, ie now a … Read More »

THE LAST SUMMER, a cracking read…. and we bring it to you before the launch in April 2012. Author JUDITH KINGHORN has skillfully written a beautiful love story that instantly draws the reader in. The first thing that strikes you in the vivid descriptions, you are taken to another place and time, Deyning and the family and friends that live and play there come alive and you feel the grass beneath your feet in the summer of 1914. Deyning Park is in its heyday, the large country house filled with the laughter and excitement of privileged youth preparing for a weekend party. Hard back … Read More »
Last night I went to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. I could hardly miss a film about a hotel named after me, could I? With a stellar cast and wonderful shots of Jaipur and Udaipur, it could hardly disappoint. The film was a tuk tuk ride of gentleness, humour and emotion – a group of elderly people looking for something in later life that opportunities and finances would not allow in this country. Fabulous performances by everyone, and I’m sure you’ve heard the cast list – Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton, Tom Whittaker, Dev Patel, Ronald Pickup and … Read More »
I am an avid reader, each birthday and Christmas I am giving books, all sorts of books, lots of books and I am never disappointed… this Christmas my other half gave me ’COMFORT AND JOY’ a novel by INDIA KNIGHT. I follow India on twitter and read her Sunday Times columns, I have read The Thrift Book which I found both witty and helpful…so he was on a safe bet I would enjoy this latest book…I did, very much. I have been asked (on twitter and in real world)…was it good? so here is my short take on it, can’t say the word ‘review’ … Read More »

A lovely sunny day….. what better than to take the day off and popped down to Chichester, West Sussex with a friend and we spent some time in the Pallant House Gallery. The exhibition we both wanted to see is the EDWARD BURRA, it did not disappoint, it opened on the 35th anniversary of his death and runs until February 21st 2012. Of course you can’t take photos of the work but a gorgeous rotund tummied man said I could take a few snaps of the gallery (for this read landing) he was most helpful and rather lovely, he had an overwhelming passion for … Read More »
I’m sure we’re all feeling a few pounds heavier after Christmas, and this time of year is peppered with work out DVD’s, diet tips and the old lose weight fast tricks. So when I heard the words ‘Downsize in Dubai’ mentioned in the background on a certain morning TV programme, my ears pricked up. I’m not looking to lose a lot of weight, but find like many women the whole dieting and weight loss industry fascinating. What I heard reallyshocked me. Apparently viewers choose the contestants from a shortlist of people whom they feel deserve this ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity’ to go to … Read More »

Downton Abbey may have had its share of critics over this last series – too many Ad breaks and too fast moving – but last night’s final episode of this series means Sunday nights just won’t be the same. There can be no better measure of a programme’s success than by knowing it will be sorely missed once over. Downton has filled a gap in our TV viewing, even though the plots have been somewhat suspect at times, and last night’s script was fairly predictable – sorry Lavinia Swire, you were always going to be the poor relation to those Grantham girls and never going to stay the … Read More »
