There can be something really dangerous about texting, messageing, emailing, tweeting … it is the BIG problem of NOT being understood! You can’t get over irony, sarcasm or humour… in a text or email, what sounds amazingly witty inside your head can read like sheer drivel or simple rudeness, ….the keyboard is not always your friend.. I recently ‘nearly’ upset a very good friend via email…. what I thought was harmless and witty banter for her was weird and bit to brutal.. later found out she was having a very bad time with her other half and wanted love, affection and massive amounts of sympathy, … Read More »
I have a friend, in fact one of my very best friends, she always looks beautiful and impeccably dressed, the main differences between us is I am a domestic slut she on the other hand is a goddess. I do the cleaning in my PJ’s or crappy old tee and sweats…(that really should be in the bin by now) and she looks amazing in old jeans and a tee…. She works to a budget so I can’t moan on about money… she does have the knack of putting things together beautifully, make-up, skin care, clothes and interiors. When I went to visit a few … Read More »

It’s Sunday, the sun is shining and spring is nearly here. All I need is a comfy chair, a good book, a cup of tea and a hot cross bun. Bliss. marigold x
It was shocking to hear the tragic news yesterday of Marie Colvin, the Sunday Times journalist who was killed whilst reporting in Syria. Marie was the most professional of women, brave and bold, always balanced and fair, utterly readable and one who always looked for the human side of a story to convey her message. Whilst this is a tragic time for her family and friends, Marie’s death is a real loss to journalism which has of late received its share of very negative press. We are so used to criticising the press for intrusion and blanket celebrity coverage we forget at times the … Read More »

I do love a good Valentines day… and as many a subtle hint dropped I don’t always get what I wish for…my OH has some great ideas of his own so I am never disappointed. I always get a gorgeous card and we have a thing about NOT getting red roses that break the bank, one year we got each other a small tree, (idea was we would watch it grow together, couple of old romantics!) the year we had our little CCF he gave me a diamond, small but perfectly formed, it is always round my neck and something I treasure because of … Read More »

This is just part of a large tree that this morning was resting….yep resting, that is tree surgeon talk for crashed onto the roof of the barn (we have a very small barn commonly known to most folks as a shed!)… this is the half that is still up there…it will have to come down on a less windy day (I’m told) tree man said “I’m not getting up a bloody ladder any more today” this is the biggest bit…. and this is next size down …. then this pile…. it turns out we have two massive willows in great danger to us too….see … Read More »

Last Christmas Cupcake and I compiled a list of our Heroes and Villains for the past year – and great fun we had doing it too. It gave us the perfect opportunity to share some of our finds and favourites and vent our frustrations whilst making us laugh. So here goes with Marigold’s 2011 list. HEROES Steve Jobs. What would we all be doing now, and how would our lives be different? What a loss the man who took me to Florence Julian Fellowes has to be on my list again – ok Downton Abbey hasn’t had the same magic as last year, but … Read More »

is for the internet to stay alive, for my computer to be virus free, and be the first to grab those last minute on-line deals which arrive before Christmas this year, not next. marigold x
A MOTHER’S MESSAGE I’m sure many will have breathed a sigh of relief at the news surrounding the possible extradition order of Gary McKinnon. Gary’s mother fought tirelessly to protect her son, and in so doing raised the profile of Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism and one which is more common than one might think yet still widely misunderstood. Parents the world over fight to protect their families against injustice. Whether they are injustices caused by loopholes in the legal system, prejudices in society, cultural differences or funding issues, there is nothing like the passion of a parent to fuel the fight … Read More »

Whitewash Christmas We’ve dusted down our winter coats, set our watches to Strictly O’clock and said goodbye to our summer. There’s a faint smell of nutmeg and cinnamon around, shops and car parks are beginning to throb and I’ve even spotted Santa. This is the time of year to draw the curtains early, throw on another layer and settle down to an evening of TV with comfort cooking and a good book, and feel safe in the age defying properties of low lighting and candles and the knowledge that there is at least 6 months before summer dresses show the signs of an excess … Read More »
Is ‘passionate’ fast becoming the most overused word in our language? Wherever you turn, there is someone who is ‘passionate’ about every element of their life. It’s everywhere, in every walk of life from cooking to pets, children, jobs and just about everything else you can think of. As soon as I see or hear the prefix I immediately think its a word used to cover up something else, such as experience, productivity or performance. Every CV I’ve read of late is peppered with the word passion, contestants on X factor (aged about 12) have been passionate about singing all their lives, businesses are passionate about people (before … Read More »
