What an amazing summer of television – and lets face it, how often do we ever say that? Who cared about the rain?! We started with the buzz of the Queen’s Jubilee, we galloped through documentaries with the pace of Chariots of Fire into the sublime Olympics and a whole nation united with the cheers and tears of heroic pursuits. No sooner had we all come down from the closing ceremony, then it was focus Paralympics, with Lucy Gannon’s ‘The Best of Men’ being one of the most informative, educational, emotional and entertaining programmes on TV this year. Sir Jimmy Saville brought Stoke Mandeville … Read More »

Downton Abbey may have had its share of critics over this last series – too many Ad breaks and too fast moving – but last night’s final episode of this series means Sunday nights just won’t be the same. There can be no better measure of a programme’s success than by knowing it will be sorely missed once over. Downton has filled a gap in our TV viewing, even though the plots have been somewhat suspect at times, and last night’s script was fairly predictable – sorry Lavinia Swire, you were always going to be the poor relation to those Grantham girls and never going to stay the … Read More »
It’s just 52 hours until Downton Abbey returns to our screens this Sunday, 9.00 pm ITV. Whatever your plans this weekend, let that thought make you smile. Marigold x
Did anyone else see ‘ Who do you think you are’ last night? It featured Emilia Fox and included the best 5 minutes in television for a long, long time, namely the scene where Emilia visited her great aunts in Cornwall. What a pair of utterly amazing ladies – pure Downton Abbey. Where was Dame Maggie Smith? Catch it now on BBC i player. Wednesday night, BBC 1 at 9.00 pm marigold x

It’s cold, it’s wet, it’s miserable. Summer is well and truly over, financial markets are in disarray, Cupcake’s hard drive is on the blink and she’s lost all e-mail and internet contact and the world is an uncertain place. But the shining light on the horizon is that Downton Abbey is back – don’t forget, ITV, Sunday 18th September at 9.00. Pure TV heaven. If only for an hour, the world can go away. Marigold x
Clocks changed, pumpkin hollowed, candles lit, tea brewed, toast buttered and TV tuned to Downton Abbey. clocks changed…. Last night was the penultimate episode and offered the same Sunday evening feast as the last five. Fashion, romance, intrigue, fabulous characters and acting (Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville I love you), stunning sets and one great big serving of Sunday comfort TV. Announced at the end of the programme was the news ITV are launching a boxed DVD set ‘of the first series’ on Monday November 8th. Great Christmas present, but better still, ’the first series’ is code for there are more to come. If you’ve missed this series so far, its not to late to catch up … Read More »
